about

Art, design and creativity has always been part of my life. I qualified as a commercial artist in 1990 and throughout my career have worked in various creative industries. I have found fine furniture making to be the most rewarding art form in which to express my talents. I have a deep appreciation of those who have truly mastered a hand skill; be it drawing, painting, calligraphy or making.

my workshop

My workshop is a two car garage at my home in the South of England. It measures 5m x 5m with a low ceiling height of 2.3m. Regular household items take up a quarter of the space, with my filming equipment using another quarter. So in reality the workshop space is halved, or the equivalent of a single car garage. Being a modest size means I do not have the space for the typical woodworking machinery and so, although I have a bandsaw and a few bench-top machines, my workshop is primarily a tranquil hand tool workshop where I design, make and film. It is the tranquility, precision and challenge of mastering the use of hand tools that most inspires and excites me. Through my courses, both physical and online, I hope to pass on my knowledge and enthusiasm to all. Using hand tools to make fine furniture is a rewarding pastime for the amateur woodworker. It gives the maker a connection to their work that no power tool can achieve.
