Art course
An ability to produce visuals of any imagined piece of furniture is a useful skill for the amateur maker and a definite advantage to a professional. My two day intensive art course is unique. Unlike traditional art courses where you might practice drawing from still life, I teach you to sketch from your imagination. Day one focuses on pencil and ink sketches. I teach simple techniques to quickly produce sketch-to-scale visuals. Starting with basic furniture forms and gradually increasing in complexity. Day two is all about rendering. Students select wood samples from my collection and use water colour paints to depict lifelike colours, textures and surface finishes of a proposed piece. All materials are provided for the course and it is suitable for all, regardless of your artistic ability.
This two day class is run as part of the London International Woodworking Festival

online tuition
I am currently filming a comprehensive online ‘introduction to furniture making’ course.
Suited to either a newcomer, a power tool user looking to explore hand tools, or for the maker who is perhaps not getting the results they desire and needs some guidance. This course assumes no prior knowledge and through a series of detailed instructional videos will assist the maker in getting started. The methods I teach, once mastered, will allow the maker to achieve consistent, accurate results necessary to produce precise work.
UPDATE;
I am currently building a purpose built workshop and the course content is due to be released early in the New Year.
